BulletProof Film is a producer of award-winning documentaries, fiction and music films as well as commercial spots and corporate videos. Based in Chicago and founded in 1995 by Columbia College Film School Alumni, Ilko Davidov and Carmine Cervi, BulletProof Film has produced and edited numerous award-winning documentaries such as William S. Burroughs: A Man Within. The New York Times’ Stephen Holden wrote: “There is not a word or image wasted in this documentary. It is a kind of genealogy of hip. The film tries to humanize an author whom it is too easy to view as an avenging nihilist, a black hole of icy misanthropic contempt.”

Other titles include: Nelson Algren: The End is Nothing, the Road Is All about the famed author of Man With the Golden Arm and Chicago: City on the Make, and winner of the first National Book Award; Sacred Sounds, about the world sacred music festival in Morocco; About Face, exploring German and Austrian Jewish refugees who fought in the Second World War; The Story of Rock 'n' Roll Comics about comic book publisher Todd Loren; and Children In Exile, a film about the children exiled to the Soviet Gulag prison camps.

BulletProof Film's work has been distributed theatrically world-wide, and has aired on PBS, History Channel, LinkTV, Free Speech TV, ARTE, Al Jazeera, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Russia, Isreal, and The Netherlands, among others.

BulletProof Film’s production company and post-production facility includes a full-service, seasoned team of writers, producers, directors, editors, cinematographers, animators, music licensing, sound location, and post-production professionals.

Davidov and Cervi are also founders of the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMMfest), a celebration of movies and music. Recently, The Chicago Reader voted it “one of Chicago’s top festivals.”

Ilko Davidov

Ilko Davidov, a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, founded BulletProof Film, a production and post-production company in 1995, where he has produced, edited, and directed numerous award-winning documentaries.

In 2008, Davidov co-founded the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMMfest), an annual event highlighting the crossover of film and song by producing an annual 4-day, multi-venue festival in Chicago.

Carmine Cervi

Carmine Cervi has produced and directed documentaries and short fiction films in both the United States and Italy. A professional actor since the age of ten, and alumnus of Chicago’s improv scene, Cervi graduated from Columbia College before relocating to Rome. In Italy he co-wrote and starred in a weekly TV series, as well as appearing in commercials and voice work at the famed Cinecittà. He went on to produce and edit short background docs for Pupi Avati’s DueA Film and directed his first feature documentary, Sacred Sounds, in Morocco.

Upon returning to Chicago, he partnered with Ilko Davidov at BulletProof Film to produce and direct fiction and non-fiction films, and provide production and post- production services for other independent producers.

Cervi has juried a number of film festivals, and is co-founder of the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMMfest).
