PARALLAX SOUNDS ANNOUNCES FILMING IN CHICAGO, IL

CHICAGO, IL. Local production company BulletProof Film (William S. Burroughs: A Man Within), Paris’ Cineparallax, Germany’s Troika Entertainment, and Italy’s First Sun (I Am Love), announce production of a new documentary feature in Chicago, IL. The production, Parallax Sounds, is currently in production through July 2011.

Chicago, the internationally known center of postrock music, is a diverse city rich in history and unique architecture; it has inspired numerous artists with its spirit. Parallax Sounds is a feature-length documentary focusing centrally on Chicago’s urban infrastructure and its effect on the music and culture of Generation X in the context of the city’s history and social dynamics.

Director Augusto Contento is the award-winning filmmaker of Tramas (Locarno Film Festival) Strade Transparenti (Locarno Film Festival), and Roads of Water (Opening Night, Rome International Film Festival). The city and its architecture are the backdrop as Parallax Sounds follows six key musicians of Post-rock and the music world at large as they retrace their professional journeys and establish the visual correspondences between music and place:
Steve Albini — producer (Nirvana, The Stooges, PJ Harvey, Pixies, Cheap Trick) and guitarist (Big Black, Rapeman, Shellac)
David Grubbs — singer/songwriter (Gastr del Sol, Squirrel Bait)
Ken Vandermark — saxophone (Vandermark 5, Spaceway Inc.)
Azita – (Brides of No No, Scissor Girls, solo)
Damon Locks – (The Eternals)
Ian Williams - singer, guitar player and keyboard (Don Caballero, Storm & Stress, Battles)

Each journey uncovers a very personal path into the heart of Chicago, as neighborhoods, streets, parks, corners, and buildings evoke and materialize different times, critical moments, and former states of mind. The cabs, trains, buses, and sidewalks become, in this way, a kind of time machine that reveals where and how the city played host to the largest Post-rock scene in the world.

The documentary has so far secured distribution deals in France, Italy, Germany, and Finland, and its release will be accompanied by an original soundtrack featuring Steve Albini, David Grubbs, Ken Vandermark, John Herndon, Rob Mazurek, Wayne Montana, and Chad Taylor. A video game based on it is being developed by French company, Spider Games.

The Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMMfest), a 501(c)3 organization, is the fiscal sponsor of the project.
